OpenAI has just released a major update, and it is already changing how people use ChatGPT for everyday tasks like writing and quickly generating images, including the tools people turn to when searching for the best AI image generator for fast, on-the-spot results.
OpenAI Expands the GPT-6 Lineup With Sol and Luna
OpenAI has disclosed details of the launch of GPT-6 Sol and Luna, two new models joining its top-tier GPT-6 Astra. Rather than replacing Astra, these models are intended to deliver similar improvements in professional work, accuracy, and coding, but in faster, more affordable versions for everyday use.
At the same time as the launch, OpenAI announced a substantial price reduction, cutting the API cost for both Sol and Luna by half compared with their earlier prices. Although GPT-6 Astra remains OpenAI’s most advanced model, Sol and Luna were developed to make that same level of intelligence more accessible for everyday tasks and larger-scale applications.
What’s Different for Professionals?
A clear improvement is accuracy: GPT-6 Sol reportedly makes about half the mistakes of its predecessor, approaching Astra’s reliability while costing considerably less to run. GPT-6 Luna also shows significant improvement, matching the earlier Sol model’s accuracy at a much lower cost.
OpenAI also applied Astra’s improved communication style to the new models, resulting in clearer responses with less jargon and a slightly shorter length, without losing important details; users are most likely to notice this change in technical or detailed conversations.
Regarding availability, GPT-6 Sol and Luna are being made available starting today for users of ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu editions. Users on the Free and Go plans can use GPT-6 Luna via the desktop app. The two models are also available via OpenAI’s API.
